- Pennsylvania Joins Multistate Lawsuit to Defend Vaccine Policy - Governor Josh Shapiro has filed a multistate lawsuit challenging recent federal changes to the national childhood immunization schedule and overhaul of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). The lawsuit argues the Trump Administration’s actions — which removed long-standing universal vaccine recommendations — ignore scientific evidence and could undermine public health. Shapiro says the legal action seeks to restore evidence-based guidance and protect families’ ability to make informed health care decisions. Read the full press release.
- American Academy of Pediatrics releases its 2026 Recommended Child and Adolescent Immunization Schedule - On January 26, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) released its 2026 Recommended Child and Adolescent Immunization Schedule. The updated guidance continues to support routine vaccination against 18 vaccine-preventable diseases and remains largely consistent with the original 2025 schedule issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in November 2024.
- Measles 2026: 910 confirmed cases in 23 states since January 1; South Carolina and Florida outbreaks growing - As of February 12, CDC reported 910 confirmed measles cases in 23 states in 2026. Six new outbreaks started in 2026. While in Pennsylvania, Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccination rates for kindergarten students are around 94% for the state, there are counties that dip as low as 84%. This is not ideal for herd immunity and can be a factor in outbreaks in the state. The Bureau of Immunizations for the Pennsylvania Department of Health continues to stress that vaccination is the best and proven method to prevent measles. It is safe, effective, and provides lasting protection. The Bureau of Immunizations has created resources on how to locate vaccine providers within Pennsylvania (exclusive of Philadelphia County) that are enrolled in the Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program or State Health Centers who offer vaccines under VFC. Philadelphia's VFC program information can be found here.
