President's Message, June 2022
Trude Haecker, MD, FAAP
It has been my honor to have served as your Chapter president for the past two years. As I reflect on this time, we certainly have come through a lot together. When you were asked to do the near-impossible, you continued to show up, attend to your patients and expand your awareness of their needs. You’ve worked through the COVID-19 pandemic at the risk of your own health when it seemed like it was all COVID, all the time. In addition, you’ve addressed vaccine hesitancy, the ever-evolving mental health crisis, return to school difficulties, the gun violence epidemic, infant formula shortages and endemic racial and health inequities. You’ve guided patients and their families through these unprecedented challenges. You’ve shared the grief of loss as over 4,200 children in Pennsylvania have lost a parent or caregiver to COVID-19. AND, you have been doing this all while keeping up with the ever-changing recommendations and evolving new issues in pediatric care.
State Advocacy Day 2022
On Wednesday, June 8, PA AAP advocates from across the Commonwealth descended on the PA State Capitol to urge legislators to act on three critical issues impacting pediatric practice and patients. It was an incredibly productive day thanks to the invaluable contributions of our pediatrician advocates!
